HOMESTAND STARTS WITH LOSS TO SHEPHERD

Concord's Women's Basketball opened a three-game homestand with an 80-73 setback to Shepherd in a WVIAC contest Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center.

The Lady Lions trailed for more than 37 minutes in suffering the fourth loss in their last six games.

Concord held a one-point lead three times in the 1st half, the last at 25-24 with 4:15 to go. But the Rams closed the half with a 12-5 spurt and led 36-30 at the break.

Shepherd would stretch its advantage to 71-58 with 4:20 remaining in the 2nd half, and Concord would get no closer than five points after that.

Jolysa Brown (above right) posted yet another double-double, leading Concord with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Amanda Smith (below left) added a career-high 19 points, shooting 6-8 from the field. Sidney Lindsey posted 11 points four rebounds and three steals.

Shepherd had five double-digit scorers, led by 13 points each from Jerica Hewitt, Carrie Saunders and Hannah Safren. The Rams ended a five-game losing streak to improve to 11-9, 8-8.

Up next for Concord (10-9, 7-8) is a WVIAC game against Alderson-Broaddus on Monday, February 5 at the Carter Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
