LADY LIONS TAKE ANOTHER CAROLINA SWEEP

One week after piling up 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep at Shaw University, Concord's Softball went off again for another sweep of a North Carolina school.

The Lady Lions erupted for 32 hits in defeating Johnson C. Smith University, 20-0 and 8-4, in a non-conference twinbill in Charlotte on Sunday, February 27

The sweep extended Concord's winning streak to four games and evened their record at 4-4.

GAME ONE
(Boxscore / Play-By-Play)

Concord scored a single run in the 1st inning, then exploded for nine runs in the 2nd, four in the 3rd and six in the 4th. The game ended on the mercy rule after five innings.

Stephanie Harper drove in CU's first run with an RBI single. The Lady Lions' 2nd inning was highlighted by three-run doubles from Katelyn Williams and Tiffany Kobordo. In the 3rd, starting pitcher Tamara Smith cracked a two-run single and Sheila Davies launched a two-run double. Brooke Bowling, Rachael Mack, Mariel Wilson and Kobordo brought in runs in the 4th.

Kobordo led the Concord attack with two hits and five RBIs. Williams and Davies each added two hits and three RBIs. Bowling and Casey Ord had three hits apiece; Harper and Becca Gleason each had two. Concord outhit JCSU 19-2.

Smith, in the circle, recorded a complete game shutout, striking out three and walking none.

GAME TWO

The lead changed hands five times before the Lady Lions took command with a four-run rally in the top of the 5th.

Concord scored first on Williams' RBI groundout in the top of the 1st. The Bulls tallied twice in the 2nd to move in front, but CU responded with three runs in the 3rd. Williams rocketed a two-run single, and later scored on a double steal.
JCSU tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the 4th. But Concord answered again in the 5th, thanks to RBI singles by Williams and Kobordo and a two-run double by Wilson.

Williams paced the Lady Lions by going 3-3 with four RBIs. Gleason, Ord and Bowling added two hits each.

Bowling scattered seven hits in picking up the complete game victory, walking three and striking out four.

Up next for Concord is a visit to Shepherd for a WVIAC doubleheader on Saturday, March 5.  First pitch is scheduled for Noon in Shepherdstown, WV.
