Concord's Women's Basketball team went into Saturday's WVIAC matchup at Bluefield State needing only to defeat the 3-22 Lady Blues to secure homecourt advantage in the first round of the conference tournament.

The Lady Lions had beaten BSC by 34 points in their first meeting of the season, and the Lady Blues dressed only six players for Saturday's rematch in Bluefield, WV.

This is why they play the game.

Concord struggled and nearly stumbled, but held off the Lady Blues 63-58 at the Ned Shott Gymnasium. As a result, the Lady Lions moved up from 8th to 7th in the conference standings, and will host West Virginia State in their tournament opener Monday night.

Concord led by as many as nine points in the 1st half and took a 32-26 lead into halftime. The Lady Lions stretched their lead to 45-31 with 12:40 remaining in the game, but couldn't deliver a knockout.
Bluefield State chipped away at the Concord lead and would get within two points three times in the game's final minutes. The last time came on Kateishia Wright's layup with :33 left that drew the Lady Blues within 60-58, but Concord countered with Sidney Lindsey's layup 14 seconds later.
Bluefield State misfired on its next possession, then fouled Jolysa Brown. The junior center made one of two free throws with :11 left to close out the scoring.

Brown (above left) led Concord with her 15th double-double of the season. Her 23 points and 16 rebounds were game highs, along with her five blocked shots.
Saturday's performance put Brown over 1000 points in her career.
Alexander added 12 points.
Charlene Diggs topped Bluefield State (3-23, 2-20) with 21 points.
