CU SWEEPS URBANA IN ANDERSON FIELD OPENER

Through The Net 314 x 235
Getting solid pitching, another late game-winning rally and a monster day from pre-season all-region player Keith Morrisroe, the Concord baseball team opened its 2011 home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Urbana University (OH) Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Concord's 8-7 and 10-7 non-conference victories were the Mountain Lions' second and third wins in a row.

GAME ONE
(Boxscore / Play-By-Play)

The Mountain Lions jumped on UU starter Zane Bayliss for three runs in the bottom of the 1st. Jacob Mays single, Keith Morrisroe walked, and they pulled a double steal. Josh Wenger doubled, driving in Mays and moving Morrisroe to third. A passed ball brought in Morrisroe, while another scored Wenger.

The Bears scored twice each in the 2nd and 3rd to go ahead 4-3, but Concord tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd. Morrisroe led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third on Wenger's groundout. Bayliss got Nick Sydnor to ground into a fielder's choice for the second out, but Morrisroe and Sydnor pulled off another CU double steal to square matters at 4-4.

Urbana turned the tables in the 5th, executing a double steal of their own to take a 5-4 lead. But Concord answered in the bottom of the inning with consecutive singles from Morrisroe, Wenger and Kyle Webb to tie the game at 5-5.

The Bears took the lead back on SS Trace Folwer's RBI single in the top of the 6th. The advantage did not last long.
Raphael Sanchez led off the bottom of the 6th with a solo home run that tied the score. Bayliss got the next two batters out, then ran into more trouble against the heart of the Mountain Lions' lineup. Morrisroe singled and stole second; Wenger reached on an error by Fowler, with Morrisroe reaching third. Wenger then stole second.
Webb singled to drive in the lead run on a single, with Sydnor tacking on a valuable insurance run with a double. Concord led 8-6.

That insurance paid off in the top of the 7th. Greg Liming led off the inning with a home run that pulled the Bears within 8-7, and ended the day for Concord starter Justin Willard. Brandon Proctor came on in relief.
Proctor induced Zach Roll to fly out to right, but then gave up back-to-back singles by Kurt Lancaster and Brad Cockerill that put the tying run in scoring position.
But Proctor got Jake Kenney to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Morrisroe and Webb each had three hits, with Morrisroe scoring four runs and Webb driving in two.

Willard (1-2) allowed nine hits in six innings in getting the win, while Proctor ea

Concord stole 10 bases, four by Morrisroe alone.

GAME TWO
(Boxscore / Play-By-Play)

The Mountain Lions again scored in the bottom of the 1st, on Sydnor's two-out RBI single. Urbana tied the game in the top of the 2nd, but Concord would break out for five runs in the bottom of the 3rd.
Webb led off with a triple, and Sydnor drove him in with a groundout. Randy Beard singled and Devin Smith doubled, and Sanchez brought them both home with a triple. UU starter Jeff Beall then walked Zach Cloxton and hit Mays with a pitch, loading the bases.

Morrisroe drove in Sanchez and Cloxton with a single, giving CU a 6-1 lead.

A Concord error to start the top of the 4th helped the Bears score four unearned runs off Smith, the CU starter, to pull within 6-5.

The Mountain Lions answered in the bottom of the inning when Webb doubled and Beard drove him in with a single.

CU added two more runs in the 5th. Mays led off with a triple, and Morrisroe followed with his first home run of the season, a two-run inside-the-park drive that put Concord up 9-5.

Urbana would reach Smith for single runs in the 6th and 7th. The Mountain Lions got their last run in the 6th, on Morrisroe's RBI double.
