EARLY RALLIES LIFT FAYETTEVILLE STATE PAST LADY LIONS

A series of early rallies propelled Fayetteville State to a sweep of Concord's Softball team in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions fell 11-4 and 7-3 in the twinbill at the Ferguson Easley Elementary School field in Fayetteville, NC.

In the first game, FSU erupted for three runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, then took command with a four-run rally in the 3rd. They tacked on one more run in the 4th.

Concord got on the board in the 2nd. Sheila Davies led off with a walk; one out later, she advanced to third on Rachel Mack's bunt. Kaylyn Klatt drew a two-out walk, and stole second. Tiffany Korbodo brought in both runners with a two-out, two-run single.

The Lady Lions turned to their running game to get their other run in the 3rd. Becca Gleason led off with double, stole third, then stole home.

Gleason paced CU's offense by going 2-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Davies was 2-2 with a double and a run scored.

In the second game, Fayetteville State (4-2) jumped out early again with two-run rallies in the 1st and 2nd innings.

Concord scored its first run in the 3rd. Casey Ord singled with two outs and advanced to third on a throwing error by FSU second baseman Demarius Pinkey; Katelyn Williams scored Ord with an RBI single.

The Lady Lions would score again on Klatt's bases-loaded groundout in the 4th.

Concord got its third run in the 7th. With two outs, Williams struck out but reached first on a passed ball. Two other passed balls moved Williams to third, and she would score on an error by Pinkey.
