WBB Senior Day Sarah Blevins & Kristin Kidd 1024 x 495

Playing its most important game of the season, and on Senior Day, the Concord Women's Basketball team picked a good day to have a good day.

The Lady Lions closed out the 1st half with a 16-4 run, and went on to close out Fairmont State 74-64 in a WVIAC contest Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center.

The victory was CU's fourth in the last five games and improved the Lady Lions to 14-10, 11-9.  That puts Concord into 7th place in the conference and in position to have home court advantage in the first round of the WVIAC Tournament, which begins February 28.

Fairmont State (14-11, 11-10) scored the first five points of Saturday's game, but Concord answered with a 12-2 run, featuring seven points from Sidney Lindsey. However, Lindsey left the game due to injury, and FSU would come back to tie the game at 20-20.

That was when Concord went on its half-closing rally to take a 36-24 lead into halftime.

The Lady Lions took a 16-point lead at 52-36 with 12:06 remaining in the game. Fairmont State responded with a 12-2 run, with six points from Lauren Gilbert, to pull within 54-48 with 7:16 left. But Jolysa Brown sank a layup, and Sarah Blevins – one of CU's two seniors – scored a layup, then a jumper, and Concord led 60-48 at the 4:35 mark.

The lead would grow to 74-58 before the Lady Falcons scored the game's last six points.

Blevins would finish with six points, six assists and two rebounds.
