CU PREVIEW: BASKETBALL vs PITT-JOHNSTOWN

WVIAC DOUBLEHEADER SET FOR SATURDAY AT CARTER CENTER

Concord hosts its final WVIAC basketball doubleheader of the calendar year when Pitt-Johnstown comes to the Carter Center on Saturday, December 10.

The women's game tips off at 1:00 pm.  The men's game is scheduled to begin at 3:00.

It's also “Lewis D'Antoni Day.”  Concord will honor its renowned alumnus during a ceremony at halftime of the men's game.  Click HERE for more details.


WOMEN

The Lady Lions (6-1, 4-1) are on a four-game winning streak, including a 75-60 victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday night in Athens.  
Jolysa Brown (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Andrea Bertrand (14 points, 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for CU.  Three other players scored in double figures -- Camisha Alexander totaled 16 points (14 in the 2nd half), Amanda Smith 15 and Anna Truckley 10.

Pitt-Johnstown (0-6, 0-4) UPJ hasn't played since a 114-88 home loss to Glenville State on December 3.  Kaitlynn Fratz scored a career-high 34 points for the Lady Mountain Cats, while Sara Trimarco added 15 points and Kelsey Sleighter 14.

Brown enters Saturday's game 2nd in the WVIAC in rebounding (12.7) and 6th in scoring (17.4).  Alexander is 2nd in three-point percentage (.440) and 3rd in free throw percentage (.917). 

UPJ's Kaitlynn Fratz is 4th in scoring (19.0), Amber Smith is 1st in free throw percentage (.941) and Kelsey Sleighter is 5th in three-point percentage (.423).

MEN


The Mountain Lions (4-3, 3-2) are coming off an 89-84 victory over Wheeling Jesuit this past Wednesday at the Carter Center.  Romel Kemp (17), Cory Willard (15), Corey Neeley (13), Javaughn Manuel (12), and Mike Boyd (10) all scored in double figures for Concord, with Manuel pulling down a team-high six rebounds.

Pitt-Johnstown comes to Athens after a visit to #20 Bowie State (MD) on Thursday night.  The Mountain Cats trimmed a double-digit deficit to three points late in the game, but the Bulldogs pulled away for an 80-69 victory.

Patrick Grubbs posted a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds for UPJ.  Jordan Miller and Nick Novak each added 17 points.


Concord's Cory Willard has become one of the WVIAC's top deep threats.  The senior from Pineville, WV lead the league in three-pointers made (29) and is 4th in three-point percentage (.592).  Corey Neeley enters the game ranked 4th in the WVIAC in free throw percentage (.900).   
UPJ's Novak is 7th in scoring (19.7) while Grubbs is 3rd in rebounding (9.9) and 4th in field goal percentage (.626).
