CU PREVIEW: BASKETBALL AT U. OF CHARLESTON

WVIAC DOUBLEHEADER SET FOR SATURDAY

Concord's basketball teams head for West Virginia's capital for a WVIAC doubleheader against the University of Charleston on Saturday, December 17. 

It's the first game back for the Mountain Lions after final exams this week.

The women's game tips off at 2:00 pm, with the men's game scheduled to follow at 4:00, at the Eddie King Gymnasium.  UC will provide live stats and streaming video of Saturday's doubleheader. 


WOMEN


The Lady Lions (7-1, 5-1) defeated Pitt-Johnstown with a 79-71 victory this past Saturday at the Carter Center.  Jolysa Brown posted her 5th straight double-double – and the 36th of her career – with 28 points and 17 rebounds.  Amanda Smith (16 points), Andrea Bertrand (12 points), and Camisha Alexander (11 points) also scored in double figures.

Alexander is currently tied for 2nd in the WVIAC for free throw percentage (.917) and is 3rd in three-point field goal percentage (.421).  Brown leads the WVIAC in rebounds (13.4) and is 4th in scoring (18.6).

The Golden Eagles come in on a four-game winning streak, but haven't played since December 3, when they defeated Alderson-Broaddus, 67-50, in Philippi.  Sophomore Erika Rousculp led UC with 16 points and 12 rebounds -- her 4th double-double of the season.  Tiffany Scott added 14 points and five rebounds while Lauren Davies racked up 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in the victory over the Battlers.

Rousculp is 2nd in rebounds (13.0), Scott is 5th in field goal percentage (.522), and Davis is 6th in steals (2.57).



MEN


The Mountain Lions (5-3, 4-2) go into to Saturday's game following a narrow 89-87 win over Pitt-Johnstown on December 10.  Javaughn Acree-Manuel topped CU with 26 points, including the game-winning jumper with less than two seconds left.  Corey Neeley and Romel Kemp each scored 20 points, with Kemp adding a team-high six rebounds.

Cory Willard leads the WVIAC in three-pointers made (3.88), is 3rd in three-point percentage (.585) and 7th in field goal percentage (.583).  Neeley is 2nd in free throw percentage (.926) and freshman point guard Mike Boyd 6th in steals (5.75).

The Golden Eagles (7-2, 2-2) are off a 73-66 non-conference win over Johnson C. Smith University this past Tuesday.  Eladio Espinosa booked a double-
double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.  Three other players reached double figures – PJ Reyes (15 points), Evan Faulkner (11) and Marco Richardson (10).

Reyes is 5th in the conference in scoring (20.9) and Espinosa is 5th in rebounds (8.3).
