WBB: PLAYING WITH A PURPOSE

LADY LIONS DENY PITT-JOHNSTOWN

Jolysa Brown Shot #2 vs UPJ
There can be a difference between a sense of urgency and a sense of purpose.

Concord's women's basketball team held on to first place in the WVIAC with a 79-71 victory over winless Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center.

The visitors played with the added energy of a team seeking its first win, and held the lead early in the 2nd half.  But the veteran-laden Lady Lions played like a team intent on keeping the conference lead.  Concord reeled off 12 unanswered points – getting field goals from five different players – to go ahead 61-50 with 13:19 left to play.

UPJ didn't quit, and pulled within four points, at 73-69, with 1:34 to go.  But Amanda Smith made a layup and Anna Truckley went 4-4 from the free throw line to clinch the victory.
