WBB: ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

LADY LIONS SHAKE OFF EARLY DEFICIT TO ROUT LEES-McRAE

Kenny Osborne, during timeout
While in the midst of a group endeavor it can be sometimes helpful to take a short break, to step back and reassess the group's goals.

The Concord women's basketball time used just such a break to turn a close game into a blowout, as the Lady Lions defeated Lees-McRae College (NC), 79-42, in a non-conference contest Thursday night at the Carter Center.

Concord scored the game's first eight points, and opened an early 14-7 lead.  But after the Bobcats responded with a 13-4 run to take the lead at 20-18, CU head coach Kenny Osborne called a timeout with 6:46 left in the 1st half (left)

The results were almost immediate.

The Lady Lions reeled off ten unanswered points to move ahead to stay, and when Camisha Alexander beat the halftime buzzer with a long three-point shot (below right), CU took a 33-24 lead into the break.

Concord scored the first eight points of the second half to lead 41-24.  The Bobcats closed within 45-32, but CU exploded for a 30-6 run that put the game away.

Camisha Alexander 3 vs Lees-McRae

Every Lady Lion player got some minutes, and 11 scored.  Jolysa Brown – the reigning WVIAC Player of the Week – led CU with 22 points and 12 rebounds.  It was the 33rd double-double of her career.
Andrea Bertrand added a double-double of her own, with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Alexander finished with 13 points.  Senior point guard Anna Truckley contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
