MEN'S BASKETBALL: STILL THE SAME

WLU RALLIES DOOM MOUNTAIN LIONS

Down Low vs WVSU 1024 x 814
This year's West Liberty's men's basketball team may not be as explosive as last year's squad, which swept to the WVIAC championship, averaged 111 points per game and reached the NCAA national semi-finals.

But this year's Hilltoppers still resemble their predecessors.

Concord fell behind by double digits less than five minutes after tipoff in its matchup at West Liberty Saturday afternoon, and fell to the 6th-ranked Hilltoppers 123-94 at the ASRC in West Liberty, WV.

The Mountain Lions fell behind 16-5 before fighting back to within 36-29 with 7:08 remaining in the first half.  But WLU went on a 22-2 run to go ahead 58-31 just four minutes later, and they would pull away from there.

Concord shot 11-25 from three-point range, buoyed by Cory Willard's 6-11 performance.  But CU committed 26 turnovers to 18 for the home side.

Willard topped CU with 20 points.  Romel Kemp came off the bench to add 18 points (shooting 6-8 from the field) and a team-high seven rebounds.

West Liberty put seven players in double figures, led by 28 points from Chris Morrow.

Up next for CU is another WVIAC road game.  The Mountain Lions visit Glenville State on Tuesday, November 23, with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Lilly Gymnasium in Glenville, WV.
