CU ENDS HOME SCHEDULE WITH WIN OVER YELLOW JACKETS

The Carter Center has been kind to the Concord Volleyball team this season.

It remained so Wednesday night.

The Lady Lions bid their 2011 farewell to the Carter Center with an impressive 3-1 victory over WVIAC rival West Virginia State. 
The 25-23, 25-18, 13-25, 25-12 victory raised CU's record to 10-3 on their home court.

Concord overcame a 19-14 deficit to win the first set.  The Lady Lions opened a five-point lead midway through the second set and pulled away from there.

With their backs to the wall, the visiting Yellow Jackets opened a 6-0 lead in winning the third set.  But Concord returned the favor in the fourth set, then pulled out to a 15-9 lead.  CU scored 10 of the last 13 points to close out the match.

Freshman Brytni Willis floored a match-high 12 kills to lead Concord, while fellow frosh Sarah Jones added ten.  Each player hit a healthy .296.
Jasmin Sutherland, Becca Lovejoy and senior co-captain Tori Fornadel posted eight, seven, and six kills, respectively.

Nikki McMillan chipped in 14 assists and 10 digs.  Amanda Walker contributed 14 digs and senior co-captain Helen Theisen handed out 11 assists.

For West Virginia State, Alyassa Graboski had nine kills, Megan Lucas had 19 assists and Leisha Salver had 14 digs.

Wednesday's match was a return home after a rugged road trip to the northern panhandle last weekend.

Mere hours after defeating Ohio Valley at the Carter Center Friday night, the Lady Lions played two WVIAC matches back-to-back on Saturday.

In the morning, CU dropped a close three-set match at West Liberty (25-23, 25-18, 25-20).  Sarah Jones led the Lady Lions with 11 kills, while Jasmin Sutherland hit a blazing .533 in adding eight kills.
Helen Theisen handed out 15 assists and Nikki McMillan 11.

Saturday afternoon, Concord met defending WVIAC champion Wheeling Jesuit, and bowed to the Cardinals 25-19, 25-15, 25-7.
Brytni Willis floored five kills, with Sutherland and Jones adding four each.

Up next for Concord is another northern road trip, to conclude the regular season.  The Lady Lions will visit Seton Hill at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 4, then travel to Fairmont State for an 11:00 am match on Saturday, November 5.
