BROWN'S 31st CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEAD CU IN SEASON-OPENING WIN

The start of a new season brings with excitement and the thrill of the unknown. 

It can also bring with a reminder of some very well-known quantities.

For the Concord women's basketball team, it's the continuing association between the name “Jolysa Brown” and the phrase “double-double."

Brown posted 30 double-doubles in her first three seasons, and led the WVIAC with 17 last season. 

Friday night, the senior center was at it again, going for 17 points and 13 rebounds, as the Lady Lions began their season with an 80-43 victory over WVU Tech in a non-conference game at the Carter Center.


Concord stormed out to a 20-3 lead just 7:45 after tip-off and led 46-25 at halftime.

Newcomer Tanisha Williams added 16 points for Concord (on 7-8 shooting), to go with four assists.  Amanda Smith shot 6-8 to finish with 13 points.

In all, 14 players got into the game for CU, and 11 of them scored.

Concord outrebounded WVU Tech 38-20 and attempted 73 field goals to the Golden Bears' 47.

Alannah Begay led the visitors with nine points.



Up next for Concord (1-0) is its first WVIAC game of the season.  The Lady Lions will host West Virginia State on Wednesday, November 16, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 pm at the Carter Center.
