Fitting that on Senior Day, it would be a senior player that helped the Concord Women's Soccer team grab an important 2-1 victory over WVIAC rival Wheeling Jesuit Saturday afternoon.

Alyssa Hessian scored both CU goals as the Lady Lions won their fourth straight match.  With a 4-3 record in the WVIAC, Concord has 12 points in the league standings and is positioning itself for a bid to next month's conference tournament.

“It was a great win today for our seniors,” CU head coach Stefani Workman said.  “Alyssa stepped up and put in two for us.  I'm really proud of how we matched Wheeling's intensity in the 2nd half.    It wasn't always pretty, but this team finds a way to win.  I'm very happy to get the three points.”

Hessian scored the first goal just 4:32 after kickoff, taking advantage of a missed clearing attempt by the WJU defense.
But the Cardinals took the subsequent kickoff and got an unassisted goal from Allison Geary a mere 11 seconds later.

The match remained level until Hessian tallied her second goal in the 79th minute.  The Cardinals had fouled Alyanna James outside the penalty area, giving CU a free kick.  Hessian bent the shot inside the near post and underneath the crossbar.

Concord's defense allowed WJU only one more shot before time ran out.

Senior goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand posted six saves.

Concord saluted its seven seniors – Hessian, Hildebrand, Tori Faulkner, Emily Gallagher, Kate Armentrout, Nicole Dirnagl and Tiffany Kobordo – in a ceremony before Saturday's match.

Up next for the Lady Lions is a non-conference match against WVU Tech on Wednesday, October 12.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Coonskin Park in Charleston, WV.
