It was like having a tickle in your nose for hours, then watching someone else sneeze.

The Concord Men's Soccer team outshot visiting Bluefield College by a ratio of nearly three-to-one, but fell to the Rams 2-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Concord outshot BC 19-7, and, in fact, managed a three-to-one ratio in shots on goal at 9-3.  But it was the Rams that managed to find the back of the net.

BC's first goal came in the 53rd minute, when Dan Turpin lofted a lob from the right wing that floated over CU goalkeeper Matt Hamilton and bounced into the net.

Concord just missed an equalizer when Jacob Wise tried a header that barely missed to the right in the 69th minute (left).

The Rams got the clincher in the 80th minute when Jacob Mader fired a right-footed shot just inside the right goalpost.

The Mountain Lions kept the pressure on Rams keeper Jefferson Watson, who made nine saves.

The contest was briskly paced but grew increasingly physical.  The squads committed a combined 27 fouls, with the Rams getting whistled 18 times.

Up next for Concord is the final match of the 2011 season – a non-conference meeting with Washington Adventist University (MD) on Sunday, October 30.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Anderson Field and admission is free.
