MEN'S SOCCER: ROLLING JACKETS

CEDARVILLE EXTENDS WIN STREAK AT CONCORD

Frazer McKinlay PK 309 x 235
The Concord Men's Soccer team knew it would be facing an opponent on a roll when Cedarville University (OH) visited Anderson Field on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets came in with a four-match winning streak, outscoring their opponents 10-2 over that span.

Unfortunately, the “other” CU left Athens with its streak intact.

The Yellow Jackets scored three goals in a stretch of less than 19 minutes in the first half, and held off Concord 3-1 in a non-conference match on a cool, clear autumn afternoon.

Todd McKinley opened the scoring in the 18th minute, firing a rocket from 30 yards out that blazed past CU goalkeeper Matt Hamilton
The Yellow Jackets got their second goal in the 29th minute, when Eric Newman assisted Scott Roseberg with a pass through traffic off a corner kick.
Ryan Thurman got the third goal in the 36th minute, when he managed to work through a scrum of bodies in front of the net to get a foot on the ball and punch it in.

Concord got its goal on a penalty kick by Frazer McKinlay in the 47th minute (above right).  The PK resulted from a Cedarville handball in the penalty area.

The quick, technically-sound Yellow Jackets put ten shots on goal to four for Concord.  Hamilton recorded seven saves.

Up next for Concord is another home non-conference match.  The Mountain Lions welcome Bluefield College (VA) to Anderson Field on Tuesday, October 25.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm and admission is free.
