MEN'S SOCCER: SUBMERGED

RAIN, BOUNCES WORK AGAINST CU

Escobar Pass 260 x 235
Bad weather conditions can dampen scoring opportunities in any outdoor sport, including soccer.

The Concord Men's Soccer team got a reminder of that on Saturday.  Playing in heavy rain, the Mountain Lions dropped a 1-0 result to the University of the District of Columbia in a non-conference match in the nation's capital.

The host Firebirds carried the play early and outshot the waterlogged Mountain Lions 12-1 in a scoreless first half.  UDC got the game's only goal after a series of helpful bounces – Ben Diaz lofted a centering pass, Roque Hernandez deflected it with a header, and Atunde Akum headed the deflection into the back of the net.

Concord pressed the attack and would outshoot UDC 11-5 in the second half.  But CU couldn't get the equalizer.

Up next for the Mountain Lions is a visit to the University of Charleston for a WVIAC match on Wednesday, October 5.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
