In baseball, when your team hits well, you're likely to win.  The same thing applies to football.

Volleyball, too.

Concord's Volleyball team hit quite well in two victories during a non-conference tri-match Tuesday at the Carter Center.

The Lady Lions posted a .360 hitting percentage in sweeping Virginia Intermont (26-24, 25-22, 25-13) and hit .326 in downing Emory & Henry (VA) in three sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-23).

The wins evened CU's record at 12-12 going into the home stretch of the regular season.

Against Virginia Intermont, the Lady Lions floored 41 kills, compared to 19 for the visitors, although the Lady Cobras tried 23 more attacks (112-89).
Freshman Brytni Willis topped Concord with 14 kills (with a .429 hitting percentage).  Sophomore Jasmin Sutherland added seven kills and hit .600.
Becca Lovejoy and Sarah Jones contributed six kills – Lovejoy hit .312, Jones .417.
Senior co-captain Helen Theisen distributed 30 assists.

Both teams came out firing in CU's match against Emory & Henry.  The Lady Lions crushed a .517 hitting percentage in winning the first set, even as the Lady Wasps hit .440.

Both teams cooled off after that.  Concord hit .242 combined over the last two sets, but that was better than the .128 posted by E&H.

Sutherland hit a robust .733 in leading CU with 12 kills.  Jones floored ten kills while hitting .562.  Willis added seven kills and Lovejoy six.

Nikki McMillan handed out 19 assists with Theisen adding 15.  Lindsay Smith had ten digs.

Up next for the Lady Lions is a visit to Alderson & Broaddus for a WVIAC match tomorrow night.  Match time is scheduled for 6:00 pm in Philippi, WV.
