VOLLEYBALL: 17 HOURS, 2 SWEEPS

CU DOWNS GLENVILLE STATE IN FRIDAY MATINEE

Set to Tori 235 x 252
So much for the quick turnaround.

The Concord Volleyball team took the court at the Carter Center at 1:00 Friday afternoon, less than 17 hours after their sweep of Mountain State the night before.

The Lady Lions showed little fatigue, picking up where they left off in sweeping Glenville State in a WVIAC match.  The 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 victory lifted CU's record to 10-12, 3-4 in the conference.

Concord hit .292 in winning the first set, and heated up to .355 in the second set.  CU cooled off to .138 in the third set but rallied to pull away from an 18-18 tie to secure the sweep.

The visitors hit an impressive .500 in the first set – with 14 kills and no errors -- but fell off to hit just .129 in the final two sets.

Set to Helen 238 x 235
In the end, the two squad's hitting percentages were roughly equal.  CU hit .250 to .245 for the Pioneers.

On Senior Day, CU's two senior co-captains upperclassmen helped lead the way.  Tori Fornadel floored a team-high six kills while hitting .455, and Helen Theisen distributed a team-high 13 assists.

Freshman Sarah Jones matched Fornadel with six kills.  Theisen, Jasmin Sutherland and Brytni Willis added four apiece.

MacKenzie Willneff led GSC with 10 kills.  Steffanie Gladders had 27 assists.

Up next for Concord is a non-conference home match against Bluefield College (VA) next Monday, October 17.  Match time is scheduled for 6:00 pm and admission is free.
