MEN'S GOLF: 2ND AT NORTHERN REGIONAL

With the WVIAC Championships coming up next weekend – and with it, a chance to defend its conference title – the Concord Men's Golf team sought a solid performance at the WVIAC Northern Regional in Wheeling, WV.

The Mountain Lions didn't nab the top spot, but finished second in the 13-team field.  The two-day tournament concluded Monday at the Oglebay Resort.

Concord compiled a 616 team score, 19 shots back of first-place West Liberty.  CU moved up two spots from their standing after the first round and finished the event level with Davis & Elkins, but earned 2nd place on a tiebreaker.

The Mountain Lions led the field in total pars (100) and par-3 scoring (+18).  CU was third in par-5 scoring (+2) tied for third on par-4's (+53) on the par-71, 7001-yard Oglebay course.

Sebastian Starud (above left) was Concord's top individual, going 78-75 over the two days to finish 7th.  The junior from Vallentuna, Sweden was 4th in par-4 scoring (4.27), tied for 11th in birdies (4) and tied for 12th in pars (20).

Evan Muscari followed an 80 on Sunday with a 76 on Monday to finish tied for 13th.  He tied for 7th in pars (21).

Jamie Arthur went 76-81 to tie for 15th.  He tied for 8th in par-4 scoring (4.36).

Johan Isberg fired a 72 on Monday, to tie for the second-best round of the day.  It was 14 strokes better than his Sunday score and the second-most-improved round of the tournament.  He finished tied for 19th in the individual standings.
Isberg posted four birdies and tied for 5th in par-3 (3.25) and par-5 (4.67) scoring.

Matt Morgan shot a 79 on Monday to finish in a tie for 22nd place.  He tied for 7th in pars (21).



Concord will host the WVIAC Championships starting next Sunday, October, at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, WV.  The three-round tournament is scheduled to run through Tuesday, October 18.
