VOLLEYBALL: TOUGH TURNAROUND

CU SWEPT IN MORNING MATCH

McMillan Set to Theisen (SS) 209 x 314
It was all a matter of fate, but the schedule makers did the Concord Volleyball team no favors going into their WVIAC match against Shepherd on Saturday morning at the Carter Center.

On Friday night, the Lady Lions found themselves in a hard-fought five-set victory over Pitt-Johnstown.  Meanwhile, Shepherd spent Friday cruising to an easy three-set win over hapless Bluefield State.

Still feeling the effects from their UPJ match, Concord fell in three sets to Shepherd on Saturday morning – 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.

As the scores show, the first two sets were fairly equal.  But Concord ran out of steam in the third set, managing just eight kills and a .185 hitting percentage, while the Lady Rams floored 14 kills and hit .324.

Brytni Willis hit a robust .391 in topping CU with nine kills.  Becca Lovejoy and Jasmin Sutherland added seven kills each.  Helen Theisen and Nikki McMillan handed out 11 assists apiece.

Shepherd's Lauren Gardner hit .536 in posting a match-high 15 kills.

Up next for Concord is a visit to the University of Charleston for a WVIAC match on Wednesday, October 5, starting at 6:00 pm.

The Lady Lions' next home match will be against West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday, October 10, at 7:00 pm.
