VOLLEYBALL: MINIMUM TO MAXIMUM

CU GOES FIVE SETS IN WIN OVER UPJ

Set to Becca Lovejoy vs UPJ 290 x 235
Sometimes, the most difficult thing for a college volleyball team to do is to win a third set , and with it, the match.

Concord's Volleyball team jumped out to a two-set lead in its WVIAC match against Pitt-Johnstown Friday night, but had no easy time in getting the third.

In fact, the Lady Lions needed to go to a fifth set – which wound up going into overtime – before finally turning away the Mountain Cats.

CU's 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 17-15 victory raised its record to 8-9, 2-1 in the WVIAC.

The Lady Lions hit a sizzling .483 in cruising through the first set.  But CU cooled off from there.  Concord's hitting percentage dropped to .205 in the second set, .170 in the third and .159 in the fourth.

CU hit .071 in the final set, but put down eight kills to UPJ's seven.

Pitt-Johnstown had its own struggles on offense.  The Lady Cats hit better than .200 in just one set, and Concord's overall .209 percentage was superior to the visitors' .146.  Put another way, it meant that Concord had seven more kills (55-48) in 31 fewer attacks (213-182).

Concord outperformed UPJ on defense, posting 35 block assists and 20.5 team blocks.  The Lady Cats managed 14 and seven, respectively.
