Over the course of a season, a college basketball team sometimes needs its bench to produce enough points to win a game.

Other times it's the starting five that carries the load.

Monday, the Concord women's team got the bulk of its points from its starters in a 78-64 win over WVIAC opponent Ohio Valley at the Carter Center.

CU's first five players combined for 70 points, 23 rebounds, 13 assists and eight steals as the Lady Lions improved to 7-5, 4-4.
Ohio Valley, one of the league's most-improved teams, left Athens at 9-3, 5-4. The Fighting Scots were 4-23 last season.

Camisha Alexander (left) followed her 29-point performance in last Saturday's win at Fairmont State with 28 points Monday. The junior from Beckley was 8-14 from the field, including a red-hot 7-11 from three-point range. In her last two games, Alexander is 17-27 from the floor and 11-17 from beyond the arc.

Sidney Lindsey added 16 points, four steals and three assists. Kristin Kidd just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jolysa Brown contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots. Pass-first point guard Sarah Blevins ended with two points, three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

Concord bolted out to a 15-5 lead in the game's first five minutes, sparked by six points from Alexander, and would lead by as many as 11 points in the 1st half. Ohio Valley, however, recovered to close out the half with a 20-8 run to lead 32-31 at the break.

Back-to-back layups by Kidd and Sammi Webster and a three-pointer by Alexander put CU ahead 63-51. OVU's Rayshell Pittman sank a three pointer to draw the Fighting Scots within nine point, but Concord answered with two layups from Lindsey (right) and another Alexander three-pointer to lead 70-54 with 2:36 remaining.
