TOUGH WEEKEND

LADY LIONS FINISH 0-2 ON PENNSYLVANIA TRIP

Nobody said it would be easy. And it wasn't.

Concord's Women's Soccer team knew it faced a difficult opening weekend to its 2010 season, playing Kutztown and East Stroudsburg -- two squads expected to finish in the upper half of the rugged Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this year.

Concord dropped its opener to Kutztown on Friday, 7-0. The Lady Lions showed better form in their Sunday matchup against East Stroudsburg, but still fell 2-0 at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Concord fired three shots at ESU goalkeeper Melissa Myers in the first five minutes, but couldn't get on the board.

The Warriors, meanwhile, couldn't easily solve CU keeper Kacey Hildebrand (right). The junior from Huntington, WV saved a penalty kick from Devon Miniscalo in the 38th minute, but, three minutes later, ESU's leading scorer found the back of the net and the host side had a 1-0 edge at halftime.

East Stroudsburg extended the lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute on a goal by Lindsay Foder, assisted by Melissa Spitler.

The Warriors wound up with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Hildebrand notched eight saves on Sunday and eight for the weekend.
