LADY LIONS CLAIM ANOTHER OVERTIME VICTORY

Some people might bristle at having to work late, over and over again.

The Concord Women's Soccer team is making a habit of it, and they're becoming fond of the results.

Saturday morning, the Lady Lions played into overtime for the third time in four matches as they hosted WVIAC foe Shepherd at Anderson Field.

Like the other two extra-time contests, this one ended well for CU.

Erika Hoff drove home the game-winning goal (right), off an assist from Gemma Nortcliffe, that lifted the Lady Lions to a thrilling 2-1 victory.

All three of Concord's wins this season have come in OT. CU defeated Seton Hill 1-0 on September 11 in Athens and claimed a 1-0 triumph at Pitt-Johnstown September 18.

Hoff tried a nifty hesitation move that bought her space in the penalty area, and she fired the game-winner past Rams goalkeeper Elizabeth Wise in the 114th minute.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw at halftime. Concord got the first goal of the match in the 50th minute, with Lindsey DeVaughn scoring off a Nortcliffe assist.

Shepherd leveled the match little more than three minutes later, on Erin Quinn's unassisted goal.

For the game, Concord outshot Shepherd 16-14, with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at five apiece. CU goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand recorded four saves; Wise had six for the Rams.

Now 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the WVIAC, the Lady Lions prepare to visit Alderson-Broaddus in a key conference match on Wednesday, September 29. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm in Philippi, WV.
