LADY LIONS ALLOW QUICK GOALS IN EACH HALF IN LOSS AT WESLEYAN

West Virginia Wesleyan's quick-strike ability helped carry it past Concord, 5-0, in WVIAC Women's Soccer on Tuesday, September 14 at Wood Street Field in Buckhannon, WV.

The Lady Bobcats carried the play off the opening kickoff, and struck for their first goal in just the 2nd minute. Zania Thomas put a shot on goal; CU goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand made the save, but couldn't control the rebound, and Thomas punched the ball into the back of the net.

The Lady Lions fell behind 2-0 when WVWC scored on another rebound in the 15th minute. Meghan Zayas' shot was blocked, but she got to the loose ball and got the goal, with Hannah Macormic getting the assist.

"What we've got to do, especially on the road, is really make sure we start out strong in the first 15 minutes or so," CU head coach Stefani Workman said Tuesday night.  "We fought to the end, but you've got to give credit to Wesleyan -- they're a very good team and they have some special players
who can help them score goals."

The Lady Bobcats missed on a chance to stretch in the 28th minute, when Macormic's shot deflected off the crossbar.

At the break, Wesleyan owned a 12-0 advantage in shots, including 6-0 in shots on goal.

WVWC pushed the lead to 3-0 less than two minutes into the second half, when Laura Dalton scored off an assist by Katie Roberts.

Jade Smith's unassisted goal put the Lady Bobcats ahead 4-0 in the 54th minute. Five minutes later, Dalton scored again, assisted this time by Aiesha Rees.

Wesleyan outshot Concord 24-4 for the game, 13-3 in shots on goal. Dalton would lead all players with six shots, four on goal.

Hildebrand made eight saves for CU.

There were no yellow or red cards.
