HOKIE QB TRANSFERS TO CONCORD

COLE TO PLAY FOR CU; SEE STORY FROM BLUEFIELD DAILY TELEGRAPH AND VIDEO FROM WVVA-TV

For Will Cole, it's a sort of homecoming.

The former Bluefield (WV) High School star quarterback has decided to transfer to Concord, after a season as a walk-on at Virginia Tech.

Cole helped lead Bluefield to a perfect 13-0 record and the West Virginia Class AA State Championship as a junior in 2007.  The following year, he won the Kennedy Award as the state's top high school player.

Cole turned down scholarship offers to walk on at Virginia Tech.  He described his experience in Blacksburg in this article, written by Sports Editor Brian Woodson of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph:

Cole -- who played high school football less than 30 miles from the Concord campus -- joins a deep quarterback corps at CU, including returning starters Zack Grossi and Steven Hearons, and promising backups Evin Dusold and Jon Mason.

The Mountain Lions open their 2010 season on Thursday, August 26th with a non-conference game against Southern Virginia.  Kick-off is at 6:00 pm EDT at Callaghan Stadium.
