With bad weather looming, Concord's Baseball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday, April 8th at West Virginia Wesleyan is postponed.
Forecasters call for an 80% chance of rain – including the possibility of thunderstorms – in Buckhannon, WV. The rain is expected to begin falling at about 1:30 pm, or a half-hour after the scheduled first pitch, and to continue until 10:00 pm.
The Mountain Lions and Bobcats will make up the twinbill on Thursday, April 22nd, at 1:00 pm EDT.
Meanwhile, Concord and Salem International have announced they'll play a three-game series in Athens on Saturday, April 24th and Sunday, April 25th.
Those are the dates the WVIAC has set aside as a "Make-Up Weekend."
The Mountain Lions and Tigers will play a seven-inning doubleheader on the 24th and a regulation nine-inning game the next day.
The two teams were originally slated to play a four-game series at Anderson Field on February 27th and 28th. But that was postponed due to snow and wet grounds.
The Mountain Lions (14-2, 9-1 WVIAC, 6-1 WVIAC Southern Division) now turn their attention to an important four-game series at West Virginia State this weekend.
The Yellow Jackets (16-5, 5-1 WVIAC South) hold the division lead over CU based on the conference power points system. The two teams will play doubleheaders at 1:00 pm EDT on Saturday, April 10th and Sunday April 11th in Institute, WV.
Concord and West Virginia State were predicted to be among the favorites to win the WVIAC this season, and so far each team has lived up to the billing.
The Mountain Lions are 27th in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Atlantic Division II national poll. The NCBWA ranks Concord 3rd and West Virginia State 6th in its Atlantic Region poll.
Concord returns to Anderson Field for a six-game homestand, starting with a doubleheader against Fairmont State on Thursday, April 15th. The Mountain Lions host the University of Charleston in a four-game WVIAC South series on Saturday, April 17th and Sunday, April 18th, with doubleheaders at 1:00 pm both days.
