Twice is nice.
Concord's Greyson Schram earned his second WVIAC Baseball Player of the Week award for the 2010 season for his role in the Mountain Lions' turnaround 7-0 week.
The senior from Stanley, NC, hit an eye-popping .714 (15-21) with five home runs, three doubles, four walks and three stolen bases. Schram scored 13 runs while providing 20 RBIs.
Concord defeated WVU Tech once, Fairmont State twice and the University of Charleston four times in raising its record to 22-5.
Schram's most noteworthy performance in a week full of highlights came in the second game of a doubleheader against Charleston on April 17th, in which his line read “4-4-4-8.” Schram went 4-4 with three home runs, a double, 17 total bases, four runs scored and eight RBIs.
Concord scorched the Golden Eagles for a remarkable 16 runs in the 4th inning, and Schram did his part. He hit not one, but two home runs – a two-run shot and a grand slam – as CU went on to win the game 21-2.
Schram shares this week's honor with Matt Coker of West Virginia Wesleyan. Schram previously won the award on March 22nd. CU's Devin Smith was POTW on March 29th.
Schram is a contender for the WVIAC Triple Crown. He leads the league in batting average (.523) and home runs (13) and is third in RBIs (52).
He's also second in runs scored (45, three behind teammate Keith Morrisroe and one ahead of CU's Donovan Huffer) and fifth in total bases.
Concord's unbeaten week raised the Mountain Lions from 6th to 4th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll.
The Mountain Lions are one of five WVIAC teams in the top ten, and one of seven that received votes.
