MOMENTUM KILLER

1st Half Rally Leads Charleston to Win Over Lady Lions

The Concord Women's Basketball team was hoping to carry the momentum of its thrilling comeback win over West Virginia State Saturday into its visit to the University of Charleston on Monday.

Consider that momentum blunted.

The host Golden Eagles stunned Concord with a 23-6 rally to end the first half, and pulled away for a 75-56 victory at Eddie King Gymnasium.

A three-pointer by Sydney Lindsey – playing just her second game after a six-week injury absence – brought Concord within 21-19 with 8:42 left in the first half. However, Charleston's Tianna Beatty – a .238 shooter from beyond the arc – answered with a three-pointer of her own 19 seconds later, and the Eagles' rally was on.

Charleston shot .500 (18-36) from the field and .429 (6-14) from three-point range on the way to their large halftime lead. The Lady Lions shot a respectable .552 (12-23), but were just 1-9 from beyond the arc. More importantly, Charleston outrebounded CU 20-9, 10-1 in offensive boards.

Charleston would lead by as many as 26 points in the second half in completing the season sweep of the Lady Lions.

Jolysa Brown led Concord with 15 points and six rebounds. Camisha Alexander, the newly-minted WVIAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, struggled against Charleston's intense defense, finishing with six points on 2-12 shooting.

WVIAC Player of the Year candidate Lindsey Kentner topped Charleston with 19 points. Five Golden Eagles wound up scoring in double figures.
