WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: MAKING PLAYS

LADY LIONS RALLY TO CLIP CLARION

Jolysa Brown, And One vs Clarion 224 x 314
Just as “three little words” can mean the world to a romantic couple, two little words can mean a lot to the outcome of a basketball game.

In this case, simple phrase is “making plays.”

Concord's Women's Basketball team made plays – big plays – in the closing minutes of their game against Clarion University (PA) Friday afternoon, and rode those plays to a 59-51 victory in the Fairmont State New Year's Classic in Fairmont, WV.

Concord trailed 47-45 when Jolysa Brown delivered the first big play. Her three-point play put CU ahead to stay at 48-47 with 4:06 left in the game.
Two possessions later, Camisha Alexander drained a three-point shot to extend the CU advantage to 51-47 with 3:12 on the clock.
On the Lady Lions' next trip, Andrea Bertrand gave CU another three-point play that stretched the lead to 54-49 with 2:40 to go.
Clarion pulled within 54-49 on Lauren Savulchak's jumper with 2:24 to go. But Kristin Kidd sank two free throws with :49 left, and, with :18 to go, Alexander closed out the scoring with yet another CU three-point play.

In a grinding, physical game, Concord committed 25 turnovers but made plays on defense. The Lady Lions limited Clarion to .210 shooting from the field (13-62) and outrebounded the Golden Eagles 52-41.

Concord led 25-14 at halftime after holding Clarion to 4-31 shooting. But the Golden Eagles started the 2nd half with a 17-6 run to tie the contest at 31-31, and would lead by as much as 38-34 with 9:19 remaining. Field goals from Bertrand and Alexander on back-to-back trips would tie the game again, however, and set the stage for the Lady Lions' playmaking finish.

Blevins to Brown, vs Clarion 314 x 235
