It's quite a challenge for a cross country team to make it out of an NCAA regional meet. Out of a sizable pool of teams that includes some of the best in the country, only two advance to Nationals.

The Concord Men's Cross Country team made a respectable showing in Saturday's Atlantic Region meet, but still saw its 2010 season come to an end. The Mountain Lions finished 12th out of 28 teams at the WakeMed Soccer Park course in Cary, NC.

Robby Peters was Concord's fastest, navigating the 10K course in 33:44.5 to finish 36th overall.
Nathan Rees was CU's second, coming in 64th in 34:42.4.
Craig Pritt (83rd) and Nick Lucento (85th) crossed the line within two seconds of each other, at 35:21.5 and 35:23.5, respectively.
Brent Roark ran 36:03.0 to finish 106th, Brad Dugan was 113th in 36:18.4 and Brad Ferguson was 128th in 36:49.9.

“We were 13th in regionals last year, so we moved up one spot,” noted Concord head coach Mike Cox. “I believe we can, and will, do better. We're still a young team.”

Of the seven Mountain Lions Cox ran at the regional, there were two juniors, four sophomores and a freshman.

Concord was the 4th-best WVIAC team at the meet. There were 28 teams and 187 runners entered.
