LADY LIONS ROLL TO 32-POINT WIN AT WEST VIRGINIA STATE

Four days ago, the Concord Women's Basketball team returned home from its season-opening 68-66 overtime loss to Pitt-Johnstown feeling frustrated.

Wednesday, the Lady Lions returned to Athens from another conference road trip feeling much, much better.

Concord sprinted out to an early 12-point lead and led by as many as 26 in rolling to a decisive 90-68 win over West Virginia State at Fleming Hall in Institute, WV.

Camisha Alexander topped all scorers with 29 points, shooting 4-6 from three-point range. Jolysa Brown added another double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Sidney Lindsey chipped in 20 points and eight rebounds.

It was Concord's second straight win, each by more than 30 points. CU defeated Bluefield College 86-55 Monday night at the Carter Center.

CU improved to 2-1, 1-1 WVIAC. The host Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-2, 0-1.

Concord spotted WVSU the game's first four points, then went off on an 18-2 rally to lead by 12. The Yellow Jackets got within 20-15, but the Lady Lions closed out the half on a 26-15 run to lead 46-30 at the break.

West Virginia State got within 14 points, at 52-38, but CU responded with another rally. The 14-2 outburst stretched Concord's lead to 66-40 with 12:19 remaining, and the outcome was decided.

The Lady Lions shot .456 (31-68) for the game, including an even .500 (16-32) in the second half. Concord limited WVSU to .391 (27-69).

Concord was .529 (9-17) from three-point range while West Virginia State finished .385 (5-13). The Lady Lions enjoyed an advantage at the free throw line, going 19-25 (.760) compared to 9-16 (.563) for the Yellow Jackets.

CU had 19 assists and 13 turnovers. WVSU committed 22 turnovers with 14 assists. The Lady Lions forged a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Head coach Kenny Osborne was able to get time for all 13 of his available players for the second straight game.

Up next for the Lady Lions is a long stretch between games. CU doesn't return to the court until Saturday, December 4, for a WVIAC contest against Seton Hill at the Carter Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
