Just once was all it took.

The Concord Women's Soccer team allowed just one goal, but it lifted Wheeling Jesuit past CU, 1-0, in a WVIAC Tournament first-round match Monday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Kara Houston scored the match's lone goal in the 67th minute, burying a pretty centering pass from Ashley McGinnis.

Houston ended the regular season as the WVIAC leader in goals and points.  Monday's goal was her 15th of the season.

WJU improves to 10-9 and advances to meet three-time defending WVIAC champion and #1 seedWest Virginia Wesleyan Friday, November 5.

The Cardinals have won three of their last four matches, all by 1-0 scores.

Concord had closed the regular season on a five-match winning streak that started with a 2-0 win at Wheeling Jesuit October 9.

The Lady Lions were the #4 seed in the tournament.  WJU was 5th.

The Cardinals outshot Concord Monday, 19-6, including 13-4 in shots on goal. CU goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand made 12 saves to keep the Lady Lions in the game.

Both teams put shots off the crossbar – the Cardinals in the 30th minute and Concord in the 54th – although WJU carried possession for much of the match. 

Concord pressed the attack in the match's final minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Concord drops to 1-5 all-time in WVIAC Tournament matches against Wheeling Jesuit. Four of those defeats have come by shutout, including the last three.

Concord overcame a 1-4 start to end its season at 9-7.

Monday was the final match for CU seniors Kelsey Ballard, Lindsey DeVaughn, Cassandra Fortino, Katrina Nagy, Gemma Nortcliffe and Kaitlyn Tomasic.
