LADY LIONS FELLED BY UC'S 2nd HALF RALLY

The barrage came suddenly. When it was over, the outcome was decided.

The Concord Women's Soccer team allowed the University of Charleston to score four goals in four minutes as UC turned a close game into a 6-2 trouncing Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Between the 54th and 58th minutes, Madeline Hartz, Courtney Cole, Brittany Loveland and Ashley Klemkowsky each scored as UC broke open a 1-1 tie.

Cole scored the match's first goal – assisted by Hartz – in the 5th minute. The Lady Lions trailed 1-0 at halftime, but got the equalizer from Nicole Dirnagl – assisted by Kelsey Ballard – in the 39th minute.

Erika Hoff scored for Concord in the 63rd minute, off another Ballard assist. Hartz closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.

Charleston outshot CU 22-8, 15-4 in shots on goals. Lady Lions goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand made eight saves.

Now at 4-6, 4-3 in the WVIAC, Concord stands in 3rd place in the league.  Tuesday's loss dealt a severe blow to CU's hopes for a first-round bye in the conference tournament. The Lady Lions were defeated by the two teams ahead of them in the standings – UC and West Virginia Wesleyan.  CU's other league loss was to Davis & Elkins, which is currently tied for 4th with Wheeling Jesuit.

Concord visits WJU on Saturday, October 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm in Wheeling, WV.
