CU OVERCOMES TWO TWO-GOAL DEFICITS AT VIRGINIA INTERMONT

Midfield vs Seton Hill 252 x 235
Concord's Men's Soccer team relied a little on its newly-explosive offense, and a little on its resolve, to forge a 5-5 draw at Virginia Intermont on Tuesday.

The Mountain Lions twice erased two-goal deficits in the back-and-forth double-overtime contest in Bristol, VA.

CU has scored 11 goals in its last two matches after getting four scores in their previous three.

The host Cobras scored in the 13th minute on the way to opening a 2-0 lead. But Alex Ryan's goal got CU within 2-1 and Ivan Deyanov's penalty kick later led to a 2-2 tie at halftime.

After the break, Concord took a 3-2 lead on Scotty Funston's blast from 25 yards out.  The Cobras replied with three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead, but their advantage didn't hold.
Varney Vincent scored, off a Ryne Shuff assist, to cut the CU deficit to 5-4.
Later, with time running out, Deyanov struck again – assisted by Murray Brown – scoring the equalizer in the 89th minute.

“It was absolutely brilliant to come back from two goals twice,” said CU head coach Steve Barrett. “We showed a lot of character to stay in there until the end.”

Up next for Concord is the 2010 finale, a non-conference match at Mountain State University on Saturday, October 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Beckley, WV.
