It took a while for the Concord Women's Soccer team to get its offense started. But once it got going, it's shown no signs of stopping.

The Lady Lions closed out their WVIAC schedule with a 6-1 rout of Ohio Valley on Wednesday in Vienna, WV.  It was CU's fourth consecutive victory.
Concord – which scored two goals in its first four matches -- has outscored its opponents 19-2 during the streak.

Now at 8-6, 6-3 in the conference, the Lady Lions await their seeding in the WVIAC Tournament, which begins November 1st. Concord could finish as high as third or as low as fifth. The top two seeds get a first-round bye; the #3 and #4 seeds host a first-round match. The #5 and #6 seeds have to win three straight road games to win the tournament and grab the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs.

Wednesday, Concord outshot the Fighting Scots 31-7, including 20-4 in shots on goal. CU attempted eight corner kicks to none for the hosts.

Concord took the lead first and for good when Kelsey Ballard put a shot past OVU goalkeeper Rebecca Richardson into the lower left corner of the net in the 11th minute.

The lead grew to 2-0 when Lindsey DeVaughn put a rebound into the left corner in the 24th minute. Ballard was credited with the assist. Four minutes later, Gemma Nortcliffe scored off a give-and-go from Melissa Woo Ling.
Nortcliffe scored again in the 42nd minute on a chip over Richardson.

Ohio Valley got its only goal in the 54th minute, but Concord answered with Erika Hoff's goal (off a cross from DeVaughn) in the 57th.

Woo Ling closed out the scoring on what Workman called “a beautiful goal to the top left corner,” assisted by DeVaughn, in the 86th minute.

“It was good to close out the conference schedule with a win,” Workman said. “Now, we're looking forward to honoring our six seniors.”

Up next for CU is a Senior Day non-conference match against Salem International on Saturday, October 23, at 1:00 pm at Anderson Field. It will be the final regular season match for Ballard, DeVaughn, Nortcliffe, Cassandra Fortino, Katrina Nagy and Kaitlyn Tomasic. Admission is free.
