It's difficult for an NCAA Division II program to match up against a Division I opponent.
Concord was reminded of that Tuesday, September 1.
The Mountain Lions fell to the Liberty University Flames 10-1 at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Flames took the lead in the 23rd minute on a goal from Darren Amoo, who finished with two tallies and two assists. Timothy Bullock scored in the 29th minute, and the Mountain Lions trailed 2-0 at halftime.
Liberty would extend its lead to 9-0 before Concord scored. Alex Ryan found the back of the net from 18 yards out on an assist from Ivan Deyanov in the 84th minute.
Liberty outshot Concord, 21-7, and ended with a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.
The defeat evens Concord's record at 1-1.
The Mountain Lions play their first WVIAC match of the season on Saturday, September 5, against Davis & Elkins at Anderson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
