Athens, WV- Concord hosted rival, Bluefield State College on their senior day. Earlier in the season Bluefield State College gave Concord a fit as it took overtime for the Lady Lions to win. The script was a little bit different as the Lady Lions roared past the Lady Blues 87-55.
Concord took at quick 16-7 lead at the 14:05 lead and the Lady Lions were ready to blowout the Lady Blues. On senior day the three seniors had a strong first half performance. Samm Nester started with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Becca Flanagan had 11 points and 3 rebounds, while Jamie Cluesman had 10 assists.
These impressive stats would be nice for any person in a game yet these three seniors had these stats in the first half. Concord started out strong as they led over their rival Bluefield State 38-22 at the half.
The second half was a continuation of domination for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions were relentless on the glass, forcing turnovers, and scoring points. Concord turned in their best performance at the right time, right before the WVIAC tournament.
Concord shot 53 percent from the floor and caused 26 turnovers in their rout of Bluefield State. The final score from the Carter Center was 87-55 in favor of the Lady Lions.
The stats column was highlighted by Concord's seniors in Becca Flanagan, Samm Nester, and Jamie Cluesman. Samm Nester led all scorers with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Becca Flanagan had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Last but not least, Jamie Cluesman set a career high with 19 assists and 6 points.
Concord (19-8, WVIAC15-5) will be at home this Monday, January 25th for a first round home game in the WVIAC tournament. The Lady Lions will be taking on Alderson-Broaddus who upset the Lady Lions earlier in the season at home. The game will be at 7:30pm on Monday night.
