Lady Lions Lose Heart Breaker on Valentine's Day to Glenville State

Glenville, WV- Concord's Men's and Women's Basketball teams traveled to Glenville, WV to try to keep their winning streaks alive. First up, the Lady Lions who are currently running a four game winning streak. The Lady Pioneers ended Concord's streak tonight in a heartbreaking loss 59-58.

On a day devoted to love, both defenses showed no love to for the other team. The teams combined for only 15 of  62 from the field. The Lady Pioneers had more chances with more steals and second chance opportunities than the Lady Lions.

That stop Concord from holding the Lady Pioneers to only 21 percent from the field. However, the Lady Lions couldn't find an offensive  rhythm from the field as they were held to only 24 looks from the field as they shot 29 percent. At the break the score was tied at 23.

Glenville State opened the half looking to take a quick jump on Concord. This is exactly what they did opening on a 6-0, before two Amber Showalter hit two lay-ups to break into the lead.

The Pioneers pushed their led to 5 points until a Becca Flanagan lay-up tied the game at 36. The game would continue to be very evenly match until about the 6 minute mark when Glenville State opened up a 7point led.

Concord would claw back into the game tying the score with just over a minute to go at 57. Two Katrina Kendrick free throws put the Lady Pioneers back up 59-57. Cassidy Smith would hit one of two free throws to bring Concord within one point.

Becca Flanagan would steal the ball with 9 seconds in the game. But Concord couldn't make the final shot as they lost a heart breaker 59-58.

Becca Flanagan was the only Lady Lions in double-figures as she scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Bre Kyle and Cassidy Smith added 9 points. Samm Nester added 6 points and 6 boards.

Concord (17-6, WVIAC 13-4) will be back on the road this weekend in Institute to face the West Virginia State  Lady Yellow Jackets on Saturday, February 16th at 2:00pm.
