Athens, WV- Concord welcomed in the University of Charleston as they looked to break a 4-game losing skid. The match-up against the University of Charleston could quite possibly go down as the best game ever played in the Carter Center. Charleston scored 16 points in the 3rd overtime to outlast Concord 104-97.
Concord came out slowing down the pace against the Golden Eagles, which in turn pushed their shooting percentage up. Concord made 18 first half field goals as they shot 60 percent from the floor.
The Mountain Lions also dominated from long-range shooting as they were a red hot 67 percent in the first half. Concord, combining their hot offense with a stingy defense (Charleston 39% first half shooting) enabled them to take an 8 point lead at halftime. At the break Concord was up 41-33.
Concord continued to stay hot on the floor in the second half as they shot 52 percent from the floor. However, the University of Charleston began making their shots as they where red hot from the foul line.
At the 11 minute mark in the second half Dannie Parker picked up his 4th personal foul and Charleston took the a one point-lead. Concord rallied behind Cordale Boyd as the Mountain Lions refused to give up. At the end of regulation the game was tied at 75.
Charleston had a chance to win the game at the end of the first overtime as Marquis Brooks missed a shot to win the game. Charleston pushed their lead to 4 points in the second overtime with one minute to go. Dannie Parker would make a lay-up and Matt Parker would make a crucial steal. Then, Dannie Parker would make a layup with 12 seconds left to send the game into triple overtime.
The Golden Eagles began the third overtime by scoring 7 straight points, where their lead was never bigger than 4 to this point, to go up for good. Steve Cox, who kept Dannie Parker in the game with excellent situational coaching, couldn't keep in him in the whole game as Parker fouled out with just over 4 minutes to go.
The major difference throughout the game proved to be foul shooting. Concord ended the game 14-23 from the line calculating to 61 percent. However, the University of Charleston ended the game 32-40, shooting 80 percent for the game.
Dannie Parker led the game for the Mountain Lions with 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Cordale Boyd added 24 points and 5 rebounds. Matt Parker came off the bench to have 13 points as Anthony Lansdowne had 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Concord (6-11, WVIAC 1-9) will be at home again this Thursday, January 31st at 7:30. The Mountain Lions will be facing off with one of the league's best teams in the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers.
