Lady Lions Squeak Past Lady Rams in WVIAC Showdown

Sierra Brown came off the bench to score 5 points and add 4 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

Amber Showalter gives Lady Lions a Strong Boost in Win Over Lady Rams

Shepherdstown, WV - The Lady Lions took their game on the road in a must win situation as they battled it out against the Lady Rams. The victor of this conference game would place their womens' team in second position in the WVIAC.  After a rough start Concord fought from behind to win a nail-bitter 52-50 over the Lady Rams.

Shepard dominated defensively in the first half as they were able to hold the Lady Lions to shooting only 27 percent. Concord only managed 8 field goals, as they scored 20 points. Luckily, for the Lady Lions their defense was just as impressive as the Lady Rams.

However, Shepherd relied heavily on their foul shooting as they made 10 first half free throws. The Lady Rams took the first half as they led with a score of 29-20.

In the second half of the game the Lady Lions refused to give up and came out strong. Amber Showalter dominated the floor for the Lady Lions, which helped Concord prevail in victory.

The Lady Lions again continued to play shut-down defense as they held the Rams to only making 8 field goals. They also kept the Lady Rams away from the line as they held them to 4 attempts from the charity stripe.

Concords offense kicked into gear as they shot 49 percent. The Lady Lions eventually knocked off the Lady Rams with a final score of 52-20.

Amber Showalter had a career night as she scored 11 points, added 10 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. Samm Nester led the Lady Lions in scoring with 15 points and contributed 4 rebounds. Meagan Cole came off of the bench adding to the Lady Lions' success with 11 points and 6 boards.

Concord (11-4, WVIAC 7-2) will continue their road trip as they travel to Johnstown, PA to take on the Pitt-Johnstown Lady Cats. The game is on Saturday, January 26 and tip off is set for 2:00pm.
