Samm Nester was one of 5 players in double figures in Concord's double overtime victory over Bluefield State
Bluefield, WV- Concord made the cross town trip to Bluefield where they were expected to easy beat out the Lady Blues. However, this game turn out to be anything but a blowout. The Lady Blues shocked the Lady Lions as they kept up in scoring column. But when the walls finally came tumbling down in double overtime as the Lady Lions slipped past the Lady Blues 90-85.
Sasha Simmons of the Lady Blues had a huge night scoring 29 points and having 5 assist in their shootout against Concord. The hot shooting of Sasha and company put the Bluefield State past Concord 39-35 at halftime despite Concord's 44% shooting from the floor.
The Lady Lions would respond as they have known to do in the past. Concord who has been known for their defense this season showed off their offensive skill in this game despite a defensive hangout. The hot shooting of the Lady Lions had them roaring back as they tied the game at 70 going into overtime.
After the squads scored 7 points a piece in the first overtime Concord decided that they have had enough. Concord pulled away in double-overtime winning the game 90-85.
Bre Kyle came off the bench to lead the Lady Lions in scoring with 23 points on a 5-12 night from long range. Cassidy Smith added 22 points, while Amber Showalter put up her 3 third straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jamie Cluesman had 15 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Samm Nester chipped in a double-double of her own with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Concord (10-2, WVIAC 6-0) will welcome in Alderson-Broaddus to Concord on Thursday, January 17th at 5:30pm.
