Charleston, WV- The Concord Mountain Lion football team traveled up the road to face the WVIAC number one ranked team University of Charleston Eagles in a CSTV and NCAA internet broadcasted game. The Mountain Lions lost to the Golden Eagles 40-7.
The Mountain Lions seemed to struggle all day with the top-ranked Golden Eagles. Charleston opened the game with a 5 play, 72 yard drive ending in a Lockhart 2 yard run. The Golden Eagles took the lead early at 7-0. Then on the ensuing drive Concord would go three and out and have to punt back to Charleston. The Eagles' kicker Sherill would add 3 points to make the first quarter score 10-0.
The Mountain Lions then failed on a 4th down fake punt on the next drive. Charleston then added 3 more from a successful field goal from Sherrill, putting them up 13-0.
Concord struggled moving the ball against the top-ranked Eagle defense and the Eagles added yet another score before the half, making the score 19-0 in favor Charleston.
Charleston would open the second half with another rushing touchdown. On the ensuing drive, the Mountain Lion offense was able to move the ball. Travis Harris found the endzone for the Mountain Lions on a one yard touchdown run. The Mountain Lions now trailed 26-7.
After a fumble recovery by the Mountain Lions defense, they were set up with a chance to score again late in the 3rd quarter. But the drive would stall as they failed to complete on a 4th down and goal.
The stop seemed to be the back breaker of the Mountain Lions. On Concord's next drive, Tommy Frazier's pass would be intercepted by Williams and returned for a 67 yard touchdown. Frazier was picked off 3 times in the contest. The Eagles had a strong lead in the 4th quarter with a score of 33-7, but they would not end here. Charleston found the endzone one more time, defeating the Mountain Lions 40-7.
