Athens, WV- As the semester winds down at Concord University the basketball season is beginning to heat up. Concord welcomed in the Glenville State Pioneers in what proved to be a Thriller. Two free throws by Marcus Catney put the Pioneers up a point with only seconds left on the clock. Glenville would win a wild thriller 75-74 over the Mountain Lions.
In the first half Concord's leader Dannie Parker picked up 2 quick fouls on back to back possessions and would have to sit for the better part of the first half. Parker only played 11 minutes in the first half and 26 in game due to foul trouble.
Despite Parker's foul trouble Concord battled back and forth with the Pioneers. The game was tied with only 1:19 left in the first half, but a 5 point run would put Glenville State up 37-32 at the half.
The pioneers began the second half on fire as they torched the nets. At the 15th minute mark and after a Dannie Parker technical (4th foul) the Mountain Lions trailed 51-38.
The Mountain Lions quickly responded with a flurry of points. Matt Parker would cap the scoring flurry with a lap up. Deon Briscoe, not happy about the lap up would be given a technical foul and Matt Parker would add 2 more at the line. Concord only trailed by 3 minutes after being down 13.
Concord clawed their way back into the game with the scoring of Lemond Lee and Cordale Boyd. The Mountain Lions had a chance at the three minute mark to take the took the lead at the foul line but could not capitalize. On the ensuing Pioneer possession an And 1 and Dannie Parker's 5th foul would put Glenville State back up 3.
Concord still hung around as Cordale Boyd would drive in and make a lay up. Concord decided to play the ball instead foul and it paid off. Calloway would rebound a missed Pioneer shot and find Chance Smith on the other end of the floor. The bucket gave Concord the lead at 74-73, their first of the second half, with only 15 seconds remaining in the half.
After a Concord foul with 4 seconds on the clock, Marcus Catney would seal the game for the Pioneers at 75-74 with two free throws.
Despite the foul trouble Dannie Parker still lead the way for Concord with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Cordale Boyd would add 14 points and 4 rebounds. Matt Parker had a big game off the bench with 9 points and 3 rebounds.
Concord (3-2, 0-2 WVIAC) will be back in action this Saturday, December 8th at home to take on Tusculum College at 4:00pm.
