Senior Ron Buskey catches his touchdown pass.
Athens, WV- On a gorgous Saturday afternoon, Concord celebrated their senior day. The best present they could give their seniors is a win on their home field as the Mountain Lions welcomed in the University of North Carolina Pembroke. Concord forced 6 turnovers as they defeated the Braves 10-0.
Concord began the game with the ball but would soon have to punt. The first turnover for the Braves was immediate as they muffed the punt return. Concord would be given the ball deep in UNC-P territory, but they could not capitalize on the field position. The first quarter would end in a deadlock tied at zero.
The Braves would begin the second quarter with the ball at their own 3 yard line and would drive deep into Concord's end of the field. However, another fumble by the Braves' quarterback Ryan Horton would give Concord the ball on the Mountain Lions own 8 yard line.
Concord would then drive deep into the Braves end of the field before their drive stalled. Field Goal kicker Zach Boyd connected on a 42 yard field to give Concord a 3-0 lead. That is the way the first half half would end as the Mountain Lions took the halftime lead of 3-0.
UNC Pembroke began the second half with a kick return that took the ball to the Concord 10 yard line. Dustin Greenwood would force McLaurin to fumble and Greenwood would recover the fumble.
After Concord's drive the Braves took over and drove the ball back into the Mountain Lion's territory. The Braves would attempt a 40-yard field goal but a mishandled snap gave Concord the ball back. At the end of the third quarter Concord still lead the Braves 3-0.
After a Colby Whitfield interception Concord would begin their drive on Pembroke 33 yard line. They would quickly have a 4th down and goal situation from the 9 yard line. Tommy Frazier would run a pretty play action fake to find Ron Buskey in the end zone for six. Boyd tacked on the extra point to make the score 10-0 Concord.
The Braves best oppertunity to score came on the next drive. But once again, Colby Whitfield intercepted a Ryan Horton pass in the endzone to end the Braves drive. Concord defeated the Braves 10-0.
