Gardner broke a 23-year old school record as he set the program record in the indoor 300-meter dash Friday night at Virginia Tech's Hokie Invite. Gardner sprinted a time of 35.41 seconds which eclipsed the old record by .06 seconds, set by Dewayne Smith in 2002. Gardner was the lone Division II athlete in the 23-man field.
