Weitzel was voted as a Second Team All-American along with his teammate Issac Prather for their performances at the NCAA Division II National Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Weitzel placed 11th with a time of 9:22 after falling during the race. Prather and Weitzel were the third and fourth All-American in men's track program history.
