Akers is a seven-time All-Mountain East Conference honoree in outdoor track and field, including winning two individual MEC Championships during the 2018 spring season. Additionally, Akers has been honored by the USTFCCCA  as an all-region selection twice during the indoor track and field season. In the Concord record book, the Pulaski, Virginia native appears nine times, holding six individual program records.
