Junior guard Paul Byrd played a vital role in leading the Concord University men’s basketball team to a 1-1 record last week. Byrd went 4-for-5 from the field, including a 3-for-4 effort from three-point range, on his way to a 14-point showing in CU’s 77-75 upset win over West Virginia Wesleyan. He followed that up by scoring 18 points, just two off of his career-high, at Notre Dame. For the week, Byrd scored 16.0 points per game, shot 68.8 percent from the field, 66.7 percent from three-point territory while also averaging 2.5 rebounds and one assist per game.
